Farley is scheduled to be arraigned in Del Norte County Superior Court at 1:30 p.m. on June 29, Micks told Redwood Voice Community News on Monday.

Crescent City Council Approves 10-Year Contract With Axon For Cameras, Tasers, Data Storage

Despite calling Axon the “best company out there,” Police Chief Richard Griffin couldn’t convince everyone on the City Council that entering into a 10-year contract for Tasers, body cameras, dashboard cameras and data storage was the best thing for Crescent City.

According to Griffin, Axon has great equipment, their data storage capabilities frees up the city’s server and allows for easy searching. The company also offers the ability to upgrade to new cameras and Tasers without needing to pay extra, the chief said.

Appointed Councilman Steve Shamblin had misgivings.

Randy Hooper will serve 44 days in jail, a Del Norte County judge decided on Monday nearly a year after officers arrested the assistant county administrative officer on a DUI with injury charge after leaving Elk Valley Casino.

At a sentencing hearing before Judge William Follett, Hooper offered an apology to Megan Postma, the Grants Pass woman whose vehicle he struck at U.S. 101 and Sand Mine Road on April 19, 2025.

“I wish I could have apologized sooner, but I was advised not to by my attorney,” Hooper told the judge. “I think my conduct was not of character — it certainly is not the way my parents raised me nor the way my wife and I are raising our children.”

Updated at 7:33 p.m. Friday to remove the address.

Ryan Cooley has begun a new chapter in his career, but he hopes his friends and former neighbors can help right a wrong that occurred just before he and his family left Del Norte County.

Cooley, the former Border Coast Regional Airport Authority director, said the home he and his family rented on Joaquin Street was burgled. The perpetrators forced open a sliding glass door and made off with everything they were going to take to their new home in Keene, New Hampshire.

“Specifically clothes, laptops, birth certificates that were in our safe, our marriage license, a longboard (and) cash that was in the safe for vehicle delivery. Even toothbrushes and razors,” Cooley told Redwood Voice Community News via text message on Thursday.

A Del Norte County judge on Thursday rejected a probation officer’s recommendation to let Randy Hooper’s felony DUI causing injury charge stand, deciding to follow a plea agreement offered to the defendant by the state Attorney General’s Office.

If Hooper lives up to the terms of the plea deal, his charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor, said attorney Keith Morris, who was designated as deputy attorney general for the case. But the judge told Hooper to expect to do some jail time — up to 90 days — when his sentence is reviewed in March, Morris told Redwood Voice Community News on Friday.

“He will serve some time in jail,” Morris said. “The judge followed the plea bargain we extended.”
